War tax resisters, knowing they do not pay for war and
that they have the key to peace, frolic in good conscience...

WAR TAX RESISTERS TO GIVE AWAY RESISTED TAX MONEY
ON CAPITOL STEPS ON APRIL 15
On Tuesday, April 15th -- “Tax Day” -- members of the Washington Area
Alternative Fund and the Louisa, Virginia Alternative Fund will donate over
7,500 dollars of resisted tax money to worthy peace and human needs-oriented
organizations on the east side of the Capitol steps in Washington, D.C.
A press conference will begin at 12:00 noon and presentation of money to
representatives from some of the organizations will begin shortly thereafter.
The fund also will be conducting a “penny poll” where passerbys allocate
10 pennies into bottles representing the categories of federal spending,
giving people a chance to show just how much they would--or would not--contribute
to the military if they had a real choice. This is one of fifty-two war tax
resistance events across the country on April 15th.
War Tax Resisters refuse to pay for past and present military spending.
Such spending represents about half of the money collected by the Internal
Revenue Service every year. The Washington Area Alternative Fund and
the Louisa, Virginia Alternative Fund allow tax resisters and non-resisters
to accumulate funds and interest which they then re-direct away from the
military and death and towards human needs and life.
Among the groups which will be receiving donations are: Children’s Creative
Response to Conflict, the Friends Peace Teams, the D.C. Free Clinic, Peace
Brigades International, the Washington Peace Center, Non-Violence International,
Mothers on the Move Spiritually, the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker, Friends
Committee to Abolish the Death Penalty, Rural Southern Voice for Peace, Charlottesville
Free Clinic, Richmond Peace Education Center, American Friends Service Committee,
Louisa Housing Foundation, Doctors without Borders, Alternatives to Violence
Project, Sexual Assault Resource Agency, School of the Americas Watch and
Prisoner Visitation and Support.
